SAFETY

This machine is extremely safe if you’re able to operate it correctly with any appropriate safety jigs. It is not safe if you are distracted, have risky practices and habits, poor technique or careless cut design. If you take the time to set up, prepare, and align each cut you’ll be fine and do great work. Below are the safety instructions for your machine.

Alignment

This is a basic text element.

Technique

Joint Type Appearance Ease of Construction Ease of Alignment During Clamping Best Application
Butt Joint Requires careful stock selection for acceptable appearance No prep needed beyond straight, square edges Tricky; parts tend to slip; requires clamps in only 1 direction For 1 or 2 joints when appearance is not critical
Butt Joint with Biscuits Requires careful stock selection for acceptable appearance Quick and easy to make, but requires biscuit joiner Excellent if biscuits fit snugly; requires clamps in only 1 direction Use it if you have the machine
Rabbet-and-Chamfer Joint Requires some care in selecting stock Requires rabbeting 1 part of joint Excellent but requires clamps in 2 directions For multiple joints when appearance is not critical
Splined Miter Requires no care beyond choosing face grain Requires 2 saw setups, 4 passes per joint, plus making spline Good if spline fits well; requires clamps in 2 directions For when appearance is important but your tools are limited
Miter with Biscuits Requires no care beyond choosing face grain Requires beveling edges, then use of biscuit joiner Satisfactory if biscuits fit well; requires clamps in 2 directions If you have the machine, use it instead of a spline
Lock-Miter Requires no care beyond choosing face grain Requires tedious setup, then 1 pass per piece Excellent; requires clamps in only 1 direction Best for large numbers of joints
